About this release
SolidWorks is history based parametric modelling, which means a part is a recipe rather than a shape. Sketches drive features, features stack in a tree, dimensions drive sketches, and changing a dimension near the bottom of the tree rebuilds everything above it. Design intent is captured in the relationships, so a part built well accepts a change in seconds.
Assemblies bring parts together with mates that describe how components relate, then check for interference, drive motion and generate exploded views and bills of material. Drawings are generated from the model with automatic views, sections, details and dimensions that update when the model changes, which removes the entire class of errors that come from drawings drifting out of step with the design.
The premium package adds the tools that turn design into manufacturing. Simulation for structural analysis, motion study with real physics, routing for pipes, tubes and electrical harnesses, sheet metal with flat pattern generation, weldments with cut lists, and mould tools. Import handles the neutral formats and most native formats from other systems, so supplier geometry drops in without a rebuild.
What it does
- History based parametric part modelling with a full feature tree
- Assembly design with mates, interference detection and exploded views
- Drawing generation with automatic views, sections, details and dimensions
- Bill of material generation driven directly from the assembly
- Sheet metal with automatic flat pattern generation and bend tables
- Weldments with structural members and automatic cut lists
- Routing for piping, tubing and electrical harness design
- Simulation for structural, thermal and frequency analysis
- Motion study with mass properties, forces and contact
- Broad import support for neutral and native formats from other systems
Changes in this version
- Faster rebuild on assemblies past ten thousand components
- Improved large assembly display mode with better graphics performance
- Reworked drawing detailing tools with fewer manual adjustments
- Better import of native geometry from other mechanical systems
- Additional simulation study types in the premium package
What the package contains
- SolidWorks 2026 Premium offline installer
- Simulation, motion, routing and mould tool add-ins
- Toolbox standard component library
- Material and appearance libraries
- Readme with the install order written out step by step
Installation notes
Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.
- Disconnect from the network, this is required rather than advisory here.
- Pause real time protection for the whole install.
- Extract to a short path, the package is very large.
- Run setup as administrator and select the add-ins you want.
- Apply the included licensing step before the first launch.
- Launch once offline and confirm the add-ins load.
System requirements
| Operating system | Windows 10 version 22H2 or Windows 11, 64-bit |
| Processor | 3.0 GHz or faster with high single thread performance |
| Memory | 16 GB minimum, 32 GB for large assemblies and simulation |
| Graphics | Certified workstation GPU strongly recommended, 4 GB VRAM minimum |
| Storage | 50 GB free during install, SSD required in practice |
| Display | 1920 by 1080 minimum |
Things worth knowing
- A consumer gaming card works but the certified workstation drivers are what the graphics path expects.
- Toolbox needs a shared location if more than one machine uses it, otherwise components drift out of step.
- Block the licensing components in your firewall so they stop retrying at startup.
Questions about this title
What does the premium package add?
Can it open files from another CAD system?
Why does it need so much disk space?
Is a workstation graphics card required?
What people are saying
Rebuild times on a twelve thousand component assembly are genuinely better than last year.
Sheet metal flat patterns feed straight into our nesting software. No cleanup.
Install is enormous. Skip the add-ins you do not use and it drops a lot.
