About this release

AutoCAD is the common language of technical drawing. Whatever else a project runs on, drawings get exchanged as DWG, and being able to open, mark up and issue that format without translation losses is the reason it stays installed in every discipline from architecture through mechanical and civil work.

The 2D side is where most hours are spent. Layers, blocks with attributes, dynamic blocks, external references, annotative scaling, dimension and multileader styles, tables, sheet sets, and layout viewports with per viewport layer control. The command line is still the fastest way to drive it, and the alias file is the first thing most drafters customise.

The 3D side covers solid, surface and mesh modelling with sectioning, visual styles and rendering, which is enough for coordination and presentation work even if a dedicated modeller does the heavy lifting. The specialised toolsets are included here, adding library content and discipline specific commands for architecture, mechanical, electrical, map, plant and raster work.

Installation notes

Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.

1. Disconnect from the network before starting, this one matters here.
2. Pause real time protection.
3. Extract to a short path such as C:\Setup.
4. Run setup as administrator and select the toolsets you want.
5. Apply the included licensing step before the first launch.
6. Launch once offline, then reconnect if you need to.

System requirements

Things worth knowing

• Block the licensing service in your firewall, it will keep trying to reach out otherwise.
• Installing every toolset adds a lot of disk use, pick the ones your discipline needs.
• Save down to an older DWG format if a consultant is on a much older release.
