About this release

NX is a high end system that puts design, engineering analysis and manufacturing in a single application working on a single model. It is aimed at the kind of product development where a change to a part has to ripple correctly through simulation and toolpaths, and where the cost of those three worlds drifting out of step is measured in scrapped parts.

Modelling combines history based features with a direct modelling mode called synchronous technology, so you can edit geometry that has no feature tree, including imported parts, as easily as native models. Large assemblies are handled with load options that keep only what you need in memory, and the parametric relationships hold the design intent as the design changes.

The value of the platform is that the analysis and manufacturing sides read the same model. Simulation covers structural, thermal and motion studies without exporting geometry, and the manufacturing modules generate and verify toolpaths for milling, turning and multi axis machining directly from the part. For a shop that designs and makes the same parts, keeping all of that in one system removes an entire category of translation error.

What it does

  • History based and direct synchronous modelling in one environment
  • Editing of imported geometry without a feature tree
  • Large assembly handling with selective load options
  • Freeform and class A surface modelling tools
  • Integrated structural, thermal and motion simulation on the native model
  • Milling, turning and multi axis machining toolpath generation
  • Toolpath verification and machine simulation before cutting
  • Sheet metal, routing and weld design modules
  • Drafting with automatic views, sections and dimensioning
  • Broad interoperability with neutral and native CAD formats

Changes in this version

  • Faster load of very large assemblies with improved memory handling
  • Expanded synchronous technology editing on imported bodies
  • Reworked multi axis machining strategies with better collision handling
  • Improved surface continuity tools for class A work
  • Additional simulation solver options in the bundled modules

What the package contains

  • Siemens NX offline installer with all modules
  • Design, simulation and manufacturing module set
  • Standard part and tooling libraries
  • Material and postprocessor libraries
  • Readme with the install order written out step by step

Installation notes

Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.

  1. Disconnect from the network before you begin.
  2. Pause real time protection for the whole install.
  3. Extract to a short path, the package is very large.
  4. Run setup as administrator and select the modules you need.
  5. Apply the included licensing step before the first launch.
  6. Launch once offline and confirm the modules load.

System requirements

Operating systemWindows 10 version 22H2 or Windows 11, 64-bit
Processor3.0 GHz or faster with high single thread performance
Memory32 GB recommended, 16 GB minimum for small assemblies
GraphicsCertified workstation GPU strongly recommended, 4 GB VRAM minimum
Storage40 GB free during install, SSD required in practice
Display1920 by 1080 minimum, 2560 by 1440 recommended

Things worth knowing

  • A certified workstation graphics card matters here, the display path expects those drivers.
  • Install only the modules you use, the manufacturing and simulation add-ins are large.
  • Block the licensing components in the firewall so they stop retrying at startup.

Questions about this title

Is this design only or does it machine as well?
Both. The manufacturing modules generate and verify toolpaths from the same model the design lives on, which is the reason to run an integrated system.
Can it edit imported parts?
Yes. Synchronous technology edits geometry with no feature tree, so imported bodies behave much like native ones.
Why does it need so much disk?
The simulation and manufacturing modules plus the libraries are large. A design only install is considerably smaller.
Does a gaming card work?
It runs, but large assemblies and the display path are tuned for certified workstation drivers. The difference is real.
