Maxon ZBrush 2026

Pre-ActivatedOffline InstallerDigital SculptingVersion 2026.2.164-bit

A digital sculpting application that treats a model like a lump of clay you push, pull and carve with brushes, reaching detail counts in the tens of millions of polygons that a traditional modeller cannot touch.

About this release

ZBrush is digital sculpting, which is a different way of making 3D than pushing points around. You start with a mass and shape it with brushes as if it were clay, building up, cutting away and smoothing, while the application carries polygon counts in the tens of millions so fine detail like skin pores, fabric weave and carved ornament stays in the surface. Character artists, creature designers and anyone making highly detailed forms live in it.

The technology that makes that possible is what sets it apart. Dynamic tessellation adds resolution where you need it as you sculpt, so you are never fighting a fixed mesh, and the multi resolution system lets you drop to a low level to change big shapes and jump back up to keep the fine detail. A deep brush set covers everything from broad blocking to precise mechanical cuts, and masking and polygroups keep control over what you are affecting.

It is not only sculpting. It carries its own retopology and remeshing tools for building a clean lower resolution version, UV tools, a polypaint system for painting colour straight onto the surface without a texture map, and posing tools for presenting a finished piece. The maps it bakes, normal, displacement and the rest, drop into a render or a game pipeline, so a highly detailed sculpt becomes an asset the rest of the toolchain can use.

What it does

  • Brush based sculpting on models with tens of millions of polygons
  • Dynamic tessellation that adds resolution where you sculpt
  • Multi resolution editing for moving between big shapes and fine detail
  • Deep brush library from broad blocking to precise mechanical cuts
  • Masking, polygroups and subtools for controlling complex models
  • Retopology and remeshing tools for building clean lower resolution meshes
  • Polypaint for painting colour directly onto the surface
  • Posing and presentation tools for finished pieces
  • Normal, displacement and other map baking for render and game pipelines
  • Hard surface and mechanical sculpting tools alongside organic ones

Changes in this version

  • Faster sculpting response at very high polygon counts
  • Improved remeshing quality for cleaner automatic retopology
  • Reworked brush behaviour for more predictable strokes
  • Better map baking speed on dense models
  • Refreshed interface defaults for a cleaner starting layout

What the package contains

  • Maxon ZBrush 2026 full offline installer
  • Complete brush and material library
  • Default alpha and texture set
  • Baking and export tools
  • Readme with the install order written out step by step

Installation notes

Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.

  1. Disconnect from the network before you start.
  2. Pause real time protection for the length of the install.
  3. Extract the archive to a short path such as C:\Setup.
  4. Run setup as administrator and let it finish.
  5. Launch once to confirm it opens, then close it.
  6. Reconnect the network.

System requirements

Operating systemWindows 10 version 22H2 or Windows 11
ProcessorMulti core 64-bit processor with SSE 4.2
Memory16 GB minimum, 32 GB or more for very high polygon counts
GraphicsGPU with 2 GB VRAM, more for the render modes
Storage10 GB free during install
Display1920 by 1080 or larger, a pen tablet strongly recommended

Things worth knowing

  • A pen tablet transforms the experience, sculpting with a mouse is possible but fights you the whole way.
  • Memory is what caps your polygon count, more system RAM lets you push detail further.
  • Build a clean retopology before you take a sculpt into a render or game pipeline.

Questions about this title

How is sculpting different from normal modelling?
You shape a mass with brushes like clay rather than moving individual points. It suits highly organic, detailed forms that would be painful to build point by point.
Do I need a graphics tablet?
Not strictly, but it makes an enormous difference. Pressure sensitivity is central to how the brushes work, and a mouse cannot match it.
Can I use the result in a game engine?
Yes, but bake the detail to maps and build a clean lower resolution mesh first. A raw multi million polygon sculpt is not a game asset on its own.
Why did it slow down on my sculpt?
You are likely near your memory limit at a high subdivision level. Drop to a lower level for big changes, or add system RAM to push further.
