About this release

Office 2021 Professional Plus is the perpetual release that sits between the older 2019 line and the current subscription builds. It brings the refreshed visual style, the rounded window treatment that matches newer Windows, dark mode across the applications, and a set of Excel functions that make a real difference if you build spreadsheets rather than just fill them in.

Excel is the strongest reason to take this over the older release. XLOOKUP replaces the awkward VLOOKUP and INDEX MATCH pattern, LET names intermediate results inside a formula, and dynamic arrays spill results across a range without an array entry ritual. Power Query and Power Pivot are both present for anything that needs a real data model behind it.

The rest of the suite is the familiar set. Word, PowerPoint with improved recording and inking, Outlook for mail and calendar, Access, and Publisher. Both architectures are in the package, forty languages are included, and the installer is prepared to run offline and finish in an activated state without a key prompt.

What it does

  • Excel with XLOOKUP, LET, dynamic arrays and the full modern function set
  • Power Query and Power Pivot for real data model work
  • Word with the refreshed interface, dark mode and improved co-authoring
  • PowerPoint with recording, inking, morph and presenter coach
  • Outlook with Exchange, IMAP and POP support and offline cached mode
  • Access and Publisher included in the professional plus package
  • Both 32-bit and 64-bit payloads in one package
  • Full offline installation with no click to run download
  • Forty interface and proofing languages
  • Configuration files for silent and unattended deployment

Changes in this version

  • Updated servicing baseline folded into the installer
  • Fixed an install failure on systems with a partially removed subscription build
  • Improved dark mode consistency across Word and Excel
  • Better upgrade handling from a 2019 installation
  • Silent deployment script now writes a readable log

What the package contains

  • Microsoft Office 2021 Professional Plus offline installer
  • Both architecture payloads in a single package
  • Silent and unattended deployment configuration files
  • All interface and proofing languages
  • Readme with the install order written out step by step

Installation notes

Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.

  1. Remove any previous Office installation with the official removal tool.
  2. Disconnect from the network.
  3. Extract the archive to a short path such as C:\Setup.
  4. Run the setup file for the architecture you want.
  5. Let it finish, then open Word once and close it.
  6. Reconnect to the network.

Things worth knowing

  • Do not install this over the 2019 release, remove the older one first.
  • Architecture has to match across all Office products on the machine.
  • Disable automatic updating if you want the installed state left untouched.

Questions about this title

Is this better than the 2019 release?
For Excel work, clearly. XLOOKUP and dynamic arrays alone change how you build a sheet. For Word and PowerPoint the difference is mostly cosmetic.
Does it need a subscription?
No. This is the perpetual release, it installs and runs without any subscription state.
Can I open files made in newer versions?
Yes. Features added later will not render, but nothing refuses to open.
Which architecture should I install?
64-bit for anything with large spreadsheets. Only choose 32-bit if a legacy add-in requires it.
