About this release

Office 2013 Professional Plus is the perpetual release that introduced the flat, high contrast interface, and it is still installed on plenty of machines that never needed anything newer. It runs offline, finishes in an activated state, and sits comfortably on hardware that predates the current suites. For a task specific machine that only has to open documents and spreadsheets, it does the job without asking for a subscription.

The suite is the complete professional set. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher and OneNote, all in the ribbon that had matured by this release. This is the version that added proper support for opening PDFs in Word and brought the first round of cloud aware save dialogs, though everything works entirely locally when you keep it offline.

The installer is prepared for a clean deployment rather than left as a raw volume package. Pick an architecture and language, run it, and finish with a working suite that reports as activated. Both payloads are present, thirty languages are included, and configuration files for a silent rollout are in the package for anyone setting up more than one machine.

What it does

  • Word with the PDF reflow feature that opens a PDF as an editable document
  • Excel with flash fill, the timeline slicer and power query available
  • PowerPoint with the improved presenter view and widescreen defaults
  • Outlook with Exchange, IMAP and POP support and a redesigned reading pane
  • Access for local relational databases with forms and reports
  • Publisher for simple print layout and OneNote for notebooks
  • Both 32-bit and 64-bit payloads selectable at install time
  • Full offline installation with no download step during setup
  • Thirty interface and proofing languages included
  • Configuration files for silent and unattended deployment

Changes in this version

  • Late servicing updates rolled into the installer
  • Fixed an install failure on machines with a leftover trial cache
  • Updated proofing tools for several languages
  • Better behaviour when upgrading over an existing 2010 installation
  • Silent install script now writes a readable log file

What the package contains

  • Microsoft Office 2013 Professional Plus offline installer
  • Both architecture payloads in a single package
  • Configuration files for silent and unattended deployment
  • All interface and proofing languages
  • Readme with the install order written out step by step

Installation notes

Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.

  1. Remove any previous Office installation with the official removal tool.
  2. Disconnect from the network before you start.
  3. Extract the archive to a short path such as C:\Setup.
  4. Run the setup file matching the architecture you want.
  5. Wait for the installer to finish and close on its own.
  6. Open Word once, close it, then reconnect to the network.

System requirements

Things worth knowing

  • Do not mix architectures across Office products on one machine.
  • The official removal tool is required if a subscription version was ever installed here.
  • Block automatic updating if you want the activation state left exactly as installed.

Questions about this title

Is this too old to open current documents?
No. It reads and writes the current file formats. Features added in later suites will not render, but the file opens both directions.
Can it run next to a newer Office?
Not cleanly. Two perpetual releases conflict over shared components. Remove the older one first.
Does the PDF editing in Word work offline?
Yes. Opening a PDF as an editable document is a local operation with no network involved.
Will it run on Windows 7?
Yes, this is one of the last suites that targets it directly, which is part of why it stays popular on legacy machines.
