About this release
ETABS differs from general purpose analysis packages by knowing what a building is. The model is organised into storeys, and that single decision changes everything downstream. Similar storeys are drawn once and replicated, loads are applied per floor, diaphragms behave as diaphragms, and results come back organised the way a building engineer thinks about them, by storey drift, by storey shear, by column line, rather than as a wall of node numbers.
The analysis capability underneath is serious. Static and dynamic analysis, response spectrum and time history, modal analysis, P-delta effects, staged construction so a tall building is analysed as it is actually built rather than as though it appeared all at once, and non linear analysis including pushover for performance based seismic assessment. Foundations, shear walls, coupled walls, flat slabs and composite floors are all modelled as the objects they are.
Design and documentation close the loop. Steel frame, concrete frame, shear wall, composite beam and composite column design run against a broad code library, with the governing check reported clause by clause. Reinforcement is sized and detailed, schedules are generated, and the results export into the drawing and building modelling formats the rest of the project team is working in. Interactive design review lets you override a member and see the consequence immediately rather than rerunning everything.

Installation notes
Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.
- Remove any earlier version of the application first.
- Disconnect from the network before you begin.
- Extract the archive to a short path such as C:\Setup.
- Run setup as administrator and allow the prerequisite runtimes to install.
- Complete the install without interruption, then launch once.
- Close it and reconnect to the network.

Things worth knowing
- Solver scratch files on a large model get very big, keep the working folder somewhere with room.
- Staged construction analysis takes considerably longer than a single stage run, budget the time before starting.
- Design output is an engineering aid and still requires a competent engineer to review and sign it.
