About this release

Revit LT is the architectural edition of the building modelling application, aimed at practices doing architecture and interiors rather than coordinating a full multi discipline model. The fundamental idea is the same and it is the reason people move to this way of working. You build the building once, as walls, floors, roofs, doors, windows, stairs and rooms, and every plan, section, elevation, detail, schedule and sheet is a view of that model rather than a separate drawing that has to be kept in step by hand.

That changes what a revision costs. Moving a wall updates every plan it appears in, every section it is cut by, every elevation it shows on, and the schedules that count what is in it, all at once. Doors renumber themselves, areas recalculate, and the sheet set stays coordinated without anybody checking it. The categories of error that come from a drawing set drifting out of agreement with itself largely stop existing.

The lighter edition drops the structural and services modelling and the multi user shared model working, keeping the architectural side complete. Families are fully usable and editable so a project can build its own components, rendering is included for presentation views, and the file format is shared with the full edition so a model moves between them without conversion. For a small practice or a single architect, it covers the work without carrying the parts that were never going to be used.

Installation notes

Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.

1. Remove any earlier installation of the same year version first.
2. Disconnect from the network before you start.
3. Extract the archive to a short path such as C:\Setup.
4. Run setup as administrator and select the content libraries you need.
5. Let the install run, it takes a while because of the library content.
6. Launch once, close it, then reconnect to the network.

System requirements

Things worth knowing

• Model with the documentation in mind from the start, a model built carelessly produces drawings that fight you later.
• Keep the local file on a fast internal drive, working across a network share is noticeably slower.
• Purge unused content periodically, model files grow steadily otherwise and open times suffer.
