About this release
AutoCAD Mechanical is the standard drafting application with an engineering toolset built on top of it. Everything you know from the base product is still there, the command line, the same drawing and modify commands, the same file format, the same customisation model, and the same behaviour when a colleague sends you a drawing. What is added is a large amount of work that mechanical drafters would otherwise be doing by hand every single day.
The standard part libraries are the headline. Hundreds of thousands of standardised components across the major international standards, screws, nuts, washers, bearings, seals, pins, rivets, shafts and structural sections, inserted parametrically so a size change updates the geometry rather than requiring a redraw. Holes, threads, chamfers and centre lines are generated as intelligent objects that understand what they are, and a change propagates to the views that depend on them.
On top of that sits the documentation and calculation layer. Bills of material are generated from what is actually in the drawing and stay linked to it, balloons number themselves and renumber when the list changes, and revision tracking is handled as a first class object rather than a text block someone has to remember to edit. There are engineering calculators for shafts, springs, cams and moment of inertia, along with a finite element pass for straightforward stress checks that would otherwise mean leaving the drawing entirely.
What it does
- Standard part libraries covering the major international standards
- Parametric insertion so component size changes regenerate the geometry
- Intelligent holes, threads, chamfers, fillets and centre lines
- Bill of material generation linked live to the drawing content
- Automatic balloon numbering that renumbers when the list changes
- Revision tracking, title block management and drawing status as real objects
- Engineering calculators for shafts, springs, cams and section properties
- Finite element pass for straightforward stress and deflection checks
- Layer management preset to mechanical drafting conventions
- Full compatibility with the base drafting application's file format
Changes in this version
- Expanded standard part libraries with additional structural sections
- Faster regeneration on drawings with several thousand standard components
- Improved bill of material export to spreadsheet formats
- Reworked balloon placement that avoids collisions with existing annotation
- Better graphics performance on large assembly drawings when panning
What the package contains
- AutoCAD Mechanical 2027 full offline installer
- Complete standard part libraries for all supported standards
- Mechanical layer and title block templates
- All interface languages, selectable during setup
- Readme with the install order written out step by step
Installation notes
Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.
- Remove any earlier installation of the same year version first.
- Disconnect from the network before you start.
- Extract the archive to a short path such as C:\Setup.
- Run setup as administrator and select the standards libraries you actually need.
- Let the install run, it takes a while because of the library content.
- Launch once, close it, then reconnect to the network.
System requirements
| Operating system | Windows 10 version 22H2 or Windows 11 |
| Processor | 2.5 GHz or faster, 3 GHz or more recommended |
| Memory | 16 GB minimum, 32 GB for large assemblies |
| Graphics | GPU with 4 GB VRAM and DirectX 12 support |
| Storage | 25 GB free, SSD strongly recommended |
| Display | 1920 by 1080 with a true colour driver |
Things worth knowing
- Installing every standards library at once adds a great deal of size, select only the ones you draw to.
- Drawings using the mechanical objects open in the base application but the objects become proxies there, so agree on tooling with anyone you exchange files with.
- Point the temporary and plot spool folders at a fast drive before starting a large project.
Questions about this title
Can the base application open these drawings?
Does it replace the base application?
Are the calculations suitable for final sign off?
Why is the install so large?
What people are saying
Bill of material staying linked to the drawing removes an entire category of mistake. Worth it for that alone.
Only installed two standards libraries and the install dropped by several gigabytes.
Balloon renumbering saved me an afternoon on a revision with nineteen changes.
