About this release
AutoCAD LT is the drafting edition of AutoCAD, built for the very large share of work that is precise two dimensional drawing and documentation rather than three dimensional modelling. It reads and writes the same drawing format as the full version, uses the same core drawing and editing tools, and produces the same layouts and plots, so a drawing moves between LT and the full release without conversion or loss. What it leaves out is the 3D modelling, the programming interfaces and a handful of specialised toolsets.
For the day to day it is the same application experience. Precise geometry with snaps, tracking and dynamic input, layers and properties for organising a drawing, blocks and dynamic blocks for reusable components, external references for combining drawings, and full dimensioning and annotation that scales correctly between model space and paper layouts. The plot and publish pipeline outputs to printers, plotters and PDF the way a documentation set needs.
Because it drops the heavier machinery, it installs smaller, starts quicker and runs comfortably on a modest machine, which suits a drafter who lives in 2D all day. This is the offline installer prepared to set up without a connection and finish in an activated state, and it sits happily alongside the full AutoCAD for anyone who needs both.

Installation notes
Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.
- Disconnect from the network before you start.
- Turn off real time protection for the duration of the install.
- Extract the archive to a short path such as C:\Setup.
- Run setup as administrator and complete the wizard.
- Apply the included activation step, then launch once and close it.
- Reconnect to the network.

Things worth knowing
- LT is 2D drafting, if you need 3D modelling or programming you want the full AutoCAD instead.
- It writes the same format as full AutoCAD, so sharing drawings with a full seat is seamless.
- It can sit alongside the full version without conflict if you need both on one machine.

What people are saying
Live in 2D all day and LT does everything I need. Starts quicker than the full seat I used to run.
Same format as the full version so sharing sheets with the engineer is seamless. No conversion dance.
Runs fine on an old laptop that struggled with the full AutoCAD. Right tool for pure drafting.
