About this release
Altium Designer is a printed circuit board design environment that keeps the whole flow in one application rather than stitching together separate schematic, layout and manufacturing tools. The schematic and the board are two views of one project that stay synchronised, so a change on the schematic pushes through to the layout and the two never drift out of step, which is where a lot of board errors come from in a split toolchain.
The layout side is a serious high speed capable router. Interactive routing with push and shove, length matching and differential pair handling covers the demanding work, the constraint system enforces the electrical rules as you route rather than flagging them afterward, and the full 3D view shows the finished board with its components placed so you can check the mechanical fit against an enclosure before anything is fabricated.
The output end closes the loop to manufacturing. The application generates the fabrication and assembly files, the bill of materials with live supplier data, and the documentation a board house needs, all from the one project. This release is the full environment unlocked from first launch, with the component libraries and the manufacturing output tools present.
What it does
- Unified project where schematic and board stay synchronised
- High speed interactive routing with push and shove
- Length matching and differential pair routing
- Constraint driven design that enforces rules as you route
- Full 3D board view for checking mechanical and enclosure fit
- Multi board and rigid flex design support
- Bill of materials with live supplier part data
- Fabrication and assembly output generation
- Component library management with parametric parts
- Version control integration for team projects
Changes in this version
- Faster routing engine on dense high layer count boards
- Improved 3D rendering performance for complex assemblies
- Reworked constraint manager interface
- Better live supplier data coverage in the bill of materials
- Enhanced rigid flex definition tools
What the package contains
- Altium Designer offline installer
- Component libraries
- Manufacturing output templates
- Sample projects covering the common workflows
- Readme with the install order written out step by step
Installation notes
Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.
- Disconnect from the network before you begin.
- Pause real time protection for the duration of the install.
- Extract the archive to a short path such as C:\Setup.
- Run setup as administrator and complete the installation.
- Apply the included activation step before the first launch.
- Open the application once, then reconnect to the network.
System requirements
| Operating system | Windows 10 version 22H2 or Windows 11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i7 or equivalent, more cores help routing |
| Memory | 16 GB minimum, 32 GB recommended for large boards |
| Graphics | GPU with 4 GB VRAM and DirectX 11 support for the 3D view |
| Storage | 20 GB free during install, SSD recommended |
| Display | 1920 by 1080, dual monitors strongly recommended |
Things worth knowing
- The 3D view leans on the graphics card, a weak GPU makes complex assemblies slow to rotate.
- Live supplier data in the bill of materials needs a network connection, the rest of the tool works offline.
- Keep component libraries under version control on a team project so everyone works from the same parts.
Questions about this title
Is the schematic and layout really one project?
Can it handle high speed design?
Does the 3D view need the internet?
Will my older projects open?
What people are saying
Schematic and layout staying in sync is the whole reason to use it. No more chasing mismatches by hand.
Push and shove routing on a dense board is genuinely good. Length matching saved me on a memory bus.
The 3D view caught a component fouling the enclosure before I sent it out. Paid for the download right there.
