About this release

Luminar Neo is a photo editor that leans hard on doing the tedious edits for you. Where a traditional workflow means a lot of masking and brushing to change a sky or relight a face, Neo reads the scene and does the selection itself, so the edit becomes a slider rather than an afternoon. It is aimed squarely at photographers who want a strong result without living in the manual retouching weeds.

The headline tools are the AI ones. Sky replacement detects the sky, swaps it and relights the foreground to match so the composite reads. Relight adjusts the light on a subject separately from the background as if you moved the lamp. Portrait tools smooth skin, brighten eyes and reshape a face with restraint, and the structure and detail tools bring out a landscape without the halos that heavy handed clarity produces.

Underneath the automatic tools it is still a proper editor. Layers stack adjustments and images, masking is available by hand when the automatic selection needs help, and the whole thing runs as a standalone application or as a plugin into a larger editor. This release has the full tool set and the extension modules unlocked from first launch.

Installation notes

Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.

1. Disconnect from the network before you begin.
2. Pause real time protection for the duration.
3. Extract the archive to a short path such as C:\Setup.
4. Run the installer as administrator and finish the wizard.
5. For plugin use, point the installer at your host editor's plugin folder.
6. Apply the included unlock step, launch once, then reconnect.

System requirements

Things worth knowing

• The AI tools want a capable GPU, without one they fall back to the processor and slow right down.
• The plugin build has to be pointed at the correct host folder or the host will not see it.
• Sky replacement reads best with a clear horizon, busy tree lines need the mask cleaned up by hand.
