About this release
Photoshop is the raster editor the rest of the industry measures itself against, and the 2026 release is the version most working retouchers, matte painters and product photographers have standardised on. The build here is the complete desktop application rather than a stripped web wrapper, so the full filter stack, the smart object pipeline, the camera raw engine and every adjustment layer type are present exactly as they ship in the retail package.
The headline of this cycle is the generative toolset. Flux Kontext Pro handles context aware fills and expansions where the surrounding pixels have to be respected, and Gemini Nano Banana covers the fast local edits that used to mean an hour of clone stamping. Both run from the contextual task bar directly under the selection, so the workflow is select, describe, commit, and the result lands as an ordinary layer you can mask, blend and throw away.
Everything else in the release is the accumulation of a long product line. Layer comps, smart filters, frequency separation friendly blend modes, the pen tool, vector shapes, artboards, the whole colour management chain with soft proofing, video timeline editing, 3D extrusion, and export presets that push straight into the rest of the Creative Cloud lineup. If you have used any version since CS6 you will find your muscle memory intact.

Installation notes
Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.
- Disconnect from the network before you start, and leave it off until the first launch is done.
- Turn off real time protection, since the setup routine writes to protected folders and gets flagged for it.
- Extract the archive to a short path such as C:\Setup, deep paths break the installer.
- Run the setup executable as administrator and pick your interface language.
- Wait for the installer to finish on its own, it can sit at 98 percent for a couple of minutes.
- Launch once, close it, then reconnect to the network.

Things worth knowing
- Block the application in your firewall if you do not want it phoning home for entitlement checks.
- The generative features are wired to run against the bundled model set, output quality varies with the prompt you give it.
- If a previous Creative Cloud install is present, remove it with the official cleaner tool first.

Updated build works on my machine, older one kept crashing on the remove tool with large smart objects. This one does not.
Install ran fine on Windows 11. Just remember the short path bit, mine failed twice from a folder buried five levels deep.
Generative fill is doing the job on product shots. Not perfect on hair but nothing is.
