About this release
Universe is the plug-in collection people install when they want a large, reliable library of looks rather than a single specialist tool. It covers transitions, stylising effects, glows, glitches, light treatments, text and shape generators, retro and film emulation, distortion, and a set of practical utilities like chroma keying, deflicker and lens correction. Everything installs once and appears in every supported host on the machine.
The important characteristic is that it is built on the graphics card. Effects preview in real time on the timeline rather than requiring a render before you can judge them, which changes how you work with them entirely. You scrub through a transition seeing the actual result, adjust a parameter and see it immediately, and only commit to a render at the end. On a machine with a decent card the difference between this and processor bound plug-ins is not subtle.
Host support is broad, covering the mainstream editors and compositors from several vendors, and the same effect behaves the same way in all of them. Parameters are consistent, presets carry across, and a project moved between applications keeps its looks intact where the host formats allow. The collection is managed through its own application, which handles installing and removing individual tools rather than forcing the entire library onto every machine.
What it does
- Large library of transitions, effects, generators and practical utilities
- Graphics card acceleration giving real time preview on the timeline
- Installs into the mainstream editors and compositors from several vendors

- Film, retro and analogue emulation looks with grain and gate weave
- Glow, light, flare and optical treatment effects
- Glitch, distortion and stylising effects with heavy preset libraries
- Text and shape generators with animation built in
- Practical utilities including keying, deflicker and lens correction
- Manager application for installing and removing individual tools
Changes in this version
- Several tools rebuilt for better performance on current graphics hardware
- New preset libraries added across the transition and look categories
- Improved keying edge quality on difficult footage
- Reworked manager application with clearer per host installation
- Fixed a preview flicker in one host at fractional timeline resolutions
What the package contains
- Red Giant Universe full offline installer
- Complete tool library with factory presets
- Manager application for per host installation control
- Host integration components for all supported applications
- Readme with the install order written out step by step
Installation notes
Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.
- Close every editor and compositor before you begin.
- Disconnect from the network.
- Extract the archive to a short path such as C:\Setup.
- Run setup as administrator and select the hosts you want it installed into.
- Apply the included activation step before launching any host.
- Open your editor, let it scan, then reconnect the network.
System requirements
| Operating system | Windows 10 version 22H2 or Windows 11 |
| Processor | Intel or AMD 64-bit multi core processor |
| Memory | 8 GB minimum, 16 GB recommended |
| Graphics | GPU with 4 GB VRAM and current drivers, required for acceleration |
| Storage | 6 GB free during install |
| Display | 1920 by 1080 or larger |
Things worth knowing
- Keep graphics drivers current, most reported problems with accelerated plug-ins come from an old driver rather than the plug-in.
- Install only into the hosts you actually use, the manager makes that easy and keeps scan times short.
- A project using these effects will not open correctly on a machine without them installed, so keep the team consistent.
Questions about this title
Which host applications are supported?
Do effects preview without rendering?
Will a project open on a machine without it?
Can I install only part of the library?
What people are saying
Real time preview on transitions changes how you pick them. No more rendering to see if it works.
Same effects behave identically in both applications I use. Presets carry straight across.
Had flickering previews, updated the graphics driver, gone. Check that first.
