About this release
After Effects is where motion design and shot level compositing happen. Everything is a layer on a timeline with keyframable properties, and the interesting work comes from stacking those layers with masks, track mattes, blend modes and effects until the shot reads. The 2026 release keeps that model intact while making the 3D side genuinely usable rather than a novelty.
The 3D workspace handles imported models, extruded text and shapes, image based lighting from an HDR environment, and a draft preview mode that keeps playback responsive while you block out a scene. Camera and light layers behave the way a motion designer expects, with depth of field, shadows and a proper renderer choice per composition.
The tracking and rotoscoping tools carry a lot of the day to day load. The 3D camera tracker solves a moving shot so you can plant elements in it, mocha style planar tracking handles screen replacements and sign work, and the roto brush isolates a moving subject with far fewer manual keyframes than a hand drawn mask. Expressions tie properties together so a rig you build once can be driven from a handful of sliders.

Installation notes
Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.
- Disconnect from the network.
- Pause real time protection.
- Extract to a short path such as C:\Setup.
- Run setup as administrator and pick a language.
- Let the installer finish, then open the application once.
- Close it and reconnect.

Things worth knowing
- Set the disk cache to a fast drive with plenty of room, previews live there and it grows fast.
- Multi frame rendering will use every core it can find, cap it in preferences if you need the machine for anything else.
- Third party plug-ins from an older year version usually need reinstalling against this build.

Set the cache to a second SSD and everything got faster. Do that first.
