About this release

EDIUS built its reputation in broadcast and news, where the job is to turn an edit around fast on whatever footage lands, and its trick is real time editing of mixed formats and frame rates on one timeline without transcoding first. Drop different camera formats, resolutions and frame rates into the same sequence and it plays them back together, which in a newsroom on a deadline is the difference between making the bulletin and missing it.

The editor is trimming led and quick under the hands, with a keyboard driven workflow that experienced cutters lean on. It handles standard and high definition and up through 4K, mixes them freely, and gives you the core finishing tools in the same application, primary colour correction, layout and motion for picture in picture, titling, and a solid audio mixer. It reads a broad set of professional camera codecs natively.

For a facility, the appeal is throughput and flexibility rather than a long list of high end effects. It is happiest as a fast, dependable edit bay that ingests anything, cuts it quickly and exports to the delivery format the station needs. This is the professional edition offline installer, prepared to set up without a connection and finish in an activated state.

  2. Turn off real time protection for the duration of the install.
  3. Extract the archive to a short path such as C:\Setup.
  4. Run setup as administrator and complete the wizard.
  5. Apply the included activation step, then launch once and close it.
  6. Reconnect to the network.

Questions about this title

Can it really mix formats on one timeline?
Yes, that is its signature feature. Different codecs, resolutions and frame rates play back together without a transcode step first.
Is it aimed at broadcast?
It grew up in news and broadcast, where turnaround speed matters more than a deep effects toolset. That is where it is strongest.
Will it edit 4K on a modest machine?
Through proxy mode, yes. Cut against light proxies and it conforms to the full resolution footage on export.
Does it read my camera's codec?
It supports a broad set of professional codecs natively, and this build adds decoders for several recent cameras.
