About this release

Driver Talent Pro takes the tedium out of keeping a machine's drivers current. It scans the hardware, matches each device against its driver database, and tells you which components are running an outdated driver, which are missing one entirely, and which are fine as they are. From there it downloads and installs the correct drivers so you are not hunting across a dozen manufacturer sites by hand.

The part that separates a careful driver tool from a reckless one is the backup, and this build makes it central. Before it changes anything it can back up the current drivers, so if a new one causes a problem, a black screen, a dead network adapter, an audio device that vanished, you roll straight back to the version that worked. That safety net is what makes updating drivers reasonable instead of risky.

It covers the practical cases around a fresh install too. A pre download mode grabs the network driver in advance so a freshly installed machine with no internet can get online, and it handles peripheral drivers for printers and the like. The build here is the full Pro version with the update, backup, restore and pre download features unlocked.

Installation notes

Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.

  1. Disconnect from the network before you begin.
  2. Extract the archive to any folder you like, the package is small.
  3. Run the installer as administrator and decline any bundled extras.
  4. Apply the included activation step before first launch.
  5. Back up your current drivers before updating anything.
  6. Reconnect to the network and run a scan.

Things worth knowing

  • Back up your current drivers before you let it update anything, that backup is your way out if a new driver breaks something.
  • For a graphics card, the manufacturer's own driver is often better than a generic match, use judgement on that one.
  • Watch for bundled extras during install and decline what you do not want.

Questions about this title

Why not just use Windows Update for drivers?
Windows Update is conservative and often lags behind. This finds newer drivers and covers devices Windows leaves on a generic driver, with a backup so you can undo a bad one.
What if a new driver breaks something?
Roll it back. As long as you backed up first, restoring the previous driver returns the device to the state it worked in.
Can it get a fresh install online?
Yes, the pre download mode fetches the network driver in advance so a machine with no working network can get connected.
Should I let it update my graphics driver?
You can, but the card maker's own driver is often the better choice for a GPU. For most other devices the automatic match is fine.
