About this release

Sapphire is the effects package that editors and motion artists install when the built in tools of their host run out of road. It is not a standalone application, it is a shelf of hundreds of effects and transitions that appear inside your existing editor or compositor, from glows and lens flares that actually behave like optics through to lighting, blurs, warps, textures and a deep library of stylised looks.

The value is in the quality of the individual effects. The glow and flare tools model real light rather than stacking a blur on a bright pixel, the lighting effects cast believable rays and volumetrics, and the distortion and warp set covers everything from subtle lens work to full on abstraction. Every parameter is keyframable in the host, so an effect can ride the edit rather than sitting on top of it.

On top of the raw effects sit two things people lean on heavily. The transition library gives you a large set of built and animated wipes and dissolves that drop onto a cut, and the built in preset browser lets you audition a look on your own footage before you commit. Mocha planar tracking is bundled so an effect can be pinned to a moving surface, which is what turns a stylised look into a proper shot fix.

What it does

  • Hundreds of effects across glow, lighting, lens, blur, distortion and texture categories
  • Large animated transition library that drops directly onto a cut
  • Physically motivated lens flare and glow tools rather than simple bright blurs
  • Mocha planar tracking bundled for pinning effects to moving surfaces
  • Preset browser for auditioning looks on your own footage before committing
  • Full keyframe control of every parameter inside the host application
  • GPU acceleration for interactive playback of heavy effect stacks
  • Builder tools for chaining multiple effects into a single custom look
  • Consistent parameter model across every effect in the package
  • Works across supported editing, compositing and OFX host applications

Changes in this version

  • New effects added to the lighting and stylise categories
  • Faster GPU path on the glow and blur family
  • Reworked preset browser with quicker thumbnail generation
  • Improved mocha tracking accuracy on low contrast surfaces
  • Better memory behaviour when many Sapphire effects sit on one timeline

What the package contains

  • Boris FX Sapphire 2026 full offline installer
  • Host integration modules for supported editors and compositors
  • Complete preset library across every effect category
  • Bundled mocha planar tracking module
  • Readme with the install order written out step by step

Installation notes

Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.

  1. Close your editor or compositor completely before you begin.
  2. Disconnect from the network.
  3. Run the installer as administrator and select your host applications.
  4. Apply the included activation step before you open the host.
  5. Launch the host so it scans and loads the new plug-ins, then reconnect.
  6. If effects do not appear, point the host plug-in path at the install folder.

System requirements

Operating systemWindows 10 version 22H2 or Windows 11
ProcessorIntel or AMD 64-bit multi core processor
Memory16 GB minimum, 32 GB recommended for 4K work
GraphicsGPU with 4 GB VRAM, 8 GB for heavy stacks at 4K
Storage4 GB free during install
HostA supported editing, compositing or OFX host application already installed

Things worth knowing

  • The package is a set of plug-ins, it needs a host application to do anything on its own.
  • Install it after your host is set up, otherwise the integration step has nothing to hook into.
  • GPU memory is the usual bottleneck, stacking several heavy effects at 4K will find the ceiling fast.

Questions about this title

Does this run on its own?
No. Sapphire is a plug-in package that lives inside an editor or compositor. Without a supported host installed there is nothing to load it.
Which hosts does it support?
The common editing and compositing applications plus OFX capable hosts. Pick the ones you have during setup and it installs the matching integration.
Do I need mocha separately?
No, the tracking module is bundled and is reached from inside the Sapphire effects that use it.
Why do the effects not show up after install?
The host has to rescan its plug-in folder. Restart it, and if they are still missing, set the plug-in path manually to the Sapphire folder.
