About this release

Bridge is the file browser built for people whose files are not documents but assets, images, layouts, videos, fonts and the working files of the rest of the Adobe applications. Instead of a list of names it shows a wall of previews, so a folder of a thousand raw frames or a project full of layered documents reads at a glance rather than by opening each one.

The organisation tools are what turn a pile of files into a managed library. Star ratings and colour labels flag the keepers, keywords and hierarchical metadata make a large archive searchable, and collections gather files from anywhere into a virtual set without moving them. Batch rename applies a consistent naming scheme across a whole shoot in one pass, which is the kind of housekeeping that otherwise never gets done.

It earns its place by being the hub the other applications reach through. Double click a raw file and it opens through the shared camera raw pipeline, drag a layered document into a layout, or run an output batch that resizes and exports a whole selection. Bridge does not edit the assets itself, it is the place you stand while deciding what goes where. This release is the full application unlocked from first launch.

What it does

  • Star ratings and colour labels for fast culling and flagging
  • Keywords and hierarchical metadata for a searchable archive
  • Collections that gather files from anywhere without moving them
  • Batch rename with a configurable naming scheme across a whole set
  • Shared camera raw pipeline for opening and adjusting raw files
  • Metadata templates applied across many files at once
  • Output module for resizing and exporting a selection in one pass
  • Direct handoff into the rest of the Adobe application lineup
  • Filter and sort by any metadata field including camera settings

Installation notes

Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.

  1. Disconnect from the network before you begin.
  2. Pause real time protection for the duration.
  3. Extract the archive to a short path such as C:\Setup.
  4. Run setup as administrator and complete the installation.
  5. Launch once so the preview cache is created, then close it.
  6. Reconnect to the network.

Things worth knowing

  • Point the preview cache at a fast drive, it grows quickly when you browse large image folders.
  • Bridge browses and organises, the actual editing happens in the application a file opens into.
  • Keep the camera raw component matched to the other Adobe applications so raw files open consistently.

Questions about this title

Does Bridge edit images?
No, it browses, organises and hands assets off. Editing happens in the application a file opens into, though raw adjustments run through the shared camera raw pipeline.
Do I need the other Adobe applications for it to be useful?
It is most useful as the hub feeding them, but the browsing, rating, keywording and batch rename all work on their own.
Why are previews slow to build?
Check the cache location and size. A large folder on a slow drive with a small cache is the usual cause.
Can it rename a whole shoot at once?
Yes, batch rename applies a naming scheme across a selection in one pass, with a preview of the result before you commit.
