About this release
Animate is a timeline based animation application with a vector drawing stage at its centre, and it carries a long lineage as the tool that a whole generation of web and broadcast animators learned on. You draw on the stage, place artwork on layers, and animate across a timeline using either classic frame by frame drawing or tweens that interpolate the movement between keyframes for you.
The drawing tools are built for animation rather than illustration. Brushes that respond to pressure, a bone tool for rigging a character so a limb bends from a single control, and symbols that let a reusable piece of artwork be animated once and dropped in many times. Onion skinning shows the frames on either side of the current one so a hand drawn sequence stays consistent, which is the core of traditional animation work.
Export is broad because the tool has outlived the plugin era it was born in. A finished animation goes out as a video file, an image sequence for compositing, an animated image, or an interactive canvas package for the web, with the drawing staying crisp vector all the way to the output. For anyone producing character animation, explainer pieces or looping graphics, it covers the whole path from blank stage to delivered file.

Installation notes
Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.
- Disconnect from the network.
- Pause real time protection for the duration.
- Extract to a short path such as C:\Setup.
- Run setup as administrator and pick a language.
- Let the installer finish, then open the application once.
- Close it and reconnect the network.

Things worth knowing
- The legacy interactive web runtime it grew up with is retired, target the modern canvas export instead.
- Keep symbols for anything reused, redrawing a repeated element frame by frame wastes hours.
- Third party extensions from an older version may need reinstalling against this build.
Questions about this title
Is this still tied to the old web plugin?
Frame by frame or tweening?
Can I animate a character rig?
Will it open old project files?
What people are saying
Onion skinning and the animation brushes are why I still draw here instead of anywhere else. Feels made for the job.
Bone rig on a simple character walk saved me redrawing every frame. Exported straight to video, clean.
Symbols kept a repeated logo animation to one edit instead of a hundred. That is the whole workflow.
