About this release
Internet Download Manager sits between your browser and whatever you are pulling down, and splits the transfer into eight or more segments that are fetched at the same time. On a connection that will not saturate from a single stream, that difference is immediately obvious. Files that crawled at a fraction of your line speed arrive at the full rate.
The resume behaviour is the other reason people keep it installed for years. If the connection drops, the machine sleeps, or the server times out, the transfer picks up from the exact byte it stopped at rather than starting again. Scheduling handles the rest, queue a batch overnight, set a bandwidth cap for working hours, and have the machine shut down when the queue empties.
Browser integration adds a download panel over media players on a page, so a stream can be grabbed as a single file without digging through developer tools. The site grabber will walk a whole page or directory and pull everything matching a filter, which is how most people use it for image sets and document archives.
What it does
- Dynamic file segmentation with up to thirty two connections per transfer
- Full resume support for interrupted, dropped or paused transfers
- Browser integration for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera and Brave
- Media panel that appears over embedded players for one click capture
- Site grabber for pulling an entire page or directory with filters
- Download scheduler with queues, bandwidth limits and post queue actions
- Speed limiter so a large transfer does not starve everything else
- Automatic categorisation of finished files by type into folders
- Proxy support including SOCKS, and per site authentication storage
- Command line control for scripted or unattended use
Changes in this version
- Updated browser integration module for current Chromium releases
- Fixed a stall that could occur on servers with aggressive rate limiting

Installation notes
Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.
- Close every browser window before you begin.
- Disconnect from the network.
- Extract the archive to any folder you like, the package is small.
- Run the installer as administrator and finish the wizard.
- Do not launch the application yet, apply the included activation step first.
- Launch it, allow the browser extension prompt, then reconnect.

Things worth knowing
- If the browser extension does not appear, add it manually from the integration tab in options.
- Turn off the automatic update check so a future update does not undo the activation state.
- Very high segment counts get throttled by some servers, eight to sixteen is the practical sweet spot.
Questions about this title
Does it work with every browser?
Why did my speed not improve?
Can it grab video from any page?
Will it survive a Windows update?
What people are saying
Still the only thing that gets my connection to the full line rate on big files.
Extension needed a manual add on Edge, took thirty seconds from the options tab.
Turned off auto update as the readme says and it has stayed happy for months.
