About this release
Live is the digital audio workstation built around the idea that writing, performing and arranging music are the same activity. It has two linked views. The session view is a grid of clips you can trigger and layer in any order, which is where ideas get built and where the application earns its place on stage. The arrangement view is a conventional timeline where those ideas get committed into a finished track.
This is the Suite edition, which means the full package rather than a trimmed one. Every bundled instrument is present, from the sampler and the wavetable synth through the analogue modelled instruments and the drum tools, and the whole effect rack comes with it, including the audio effects, the MIDI tools and Max for Live for building your own devices. The included sound library is large enough to start and finish a track without reaching for anything else.
Underneath the two views is a workflow designed to stay out of the way. Warping locks any audio to the project tempo so loops from different sources play together, MIDI editing is fast and keyboard driven, automation is drawn straight onto clips or the timeline, and the whole thing is designed to be driven from a controller so your hands can leave the mouse. It reads the common plug-in formats so an existing collection of instruments and effects slots straight in.

Installation notes
Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.
- Disconnect from the network before you begin.
- Pause real time protection for the length of the install.
- Extract the archive to a short path such as C:\Setup.
- Run setup as administrator and let the core application install.
- Point the application at the included sound library folder when it asks.
- Launch once, then reconnect the network.

Things worth knowing
- Install an ASIO audio driver for your interface, the generic driver adds latency that makes live playing awkward.
- The sound library is large, install it to a fast drive with room to spare.
- Third party plug-ins need rescanning in preferences before they appear in the browser.
