About this release
Recoverit is the application you install after the file is already gone. It scans a drive for data that has been deleted, lost to a formatting or stranded on a partition that will no longer mount, and rebuilds whatever is still recoverable. Because a deleted file is usually still on the disk until something writes over it, a scan run soon after the loss often gets a great deal of it back.
It works in two passes. A quick scan finds recently deleted files fast, which handles the common case of an emptied recycle bin or a wiped memory card. When that is not enough, a deep scan reads the drive sector by sector and reconstructs files from their signatures, which is slower but reaches data the quick pass misses, including files whose directory entry is long gone. A preview lets you confirm a file is intact before you recover it.
The format coverage is broad. It handles the file systems Windows uses and reads from internal drives, external drives, memory cards and USB sticks, recovering documents, photos, video, audio and archives. There is a dedicated repair path for damaged video and photos that scan back broken, and a bootable recovery option for when the system drive itself is the one that failed and Windows will not start.

Installation notes
Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.
- Do not install onto the drive you are trying to recover, use a different drive.
- Disconnect from the network and pause real time protection.
- Run the installer as administrator and finish the wizard.
- Apply the included activation step before you launch.
- Open the application, pick the affected drive, and start with a quick scan.
- Recover found files to a different drive than the one being scanned.

Things worth knowing
- Stop using the affected drive the moment you notice a loss, every write lowers what can be recovered.
- Never recover files back onto the same drive you are scanning, it can overwrite data still waiting to be found.
- A deep scan on a large drive takes time, let it run rather than cancelling it early.
