About this release

KMSAuto++ is a portable activation front end that automates the key management service model Microsoft built for large organisations, but runs the whole thing on the single machine in front of you. It installs a generic volume key, points the licensing client at a service hosted on the loopback address, and lets that service answer the activation request the way a corporate server would. The result is a system that reports itself as licensed without a phone call to anyone.

The tool leans on a small scheduled task that renews the state on the usual cycle, so the machine stays in an activated condition rather than lapsing after the first renewal window. That renewal piece is the part people care about, since a one time activation that expires again in a fortnight is not worth much. The interface exposes the renewal task, the installed key, and the current status in three plain tabs.

Everything runs from a single unpacked folder with no setup wizard, which is why it stays on so many technician USB sticks. It covers the volume licensing editions of the desktop operating system and the perpetual Office suites, detects what is present, and picks a matching generic key on its own. Manual controls are there under an advanced tab for the cases where the automatic pass picks the wrong edition.

What it does

  • Local key management service hosted on the loopback address, no external server involved
  • Automatic detection of the installed Windows edition and Office suite
  • Generic volume key selection matched to the detected product
  • Renewal task that keeps the activated state refreshed on the standard cycle
  • Portable operation from a single folder with nothing written to Program Files
  • Status tab showing the installed key, service state and next renewal
  • Advanced tab for manual key entry and service port selection
  • Cleanup option that removes the service and task in one action
  • Detailed activity log written next to the executable
  • Twelve interface languages selectable from the main window

Changes in this version

  • Updated generic key list covering the current perpetual Office release
  • Fixed a renewal task that could fail to register on non English system locales
  • Improved detection of mixed architecture Office installations
  • Reworked status tab that reads the licence state more reliably
  • Smaller executable after trimming unused language resources

What the package contains

  • KMSAuto++ portable executable
  • Generic volume key reference list
  • All twelve interface languages
  • Activity log template
  • Readme with the run order written out step by step

Installation notes

Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.

  1. Disconnect from the network before you begin.
  2. Turn off real time protection, since activation tools are flagged on sight by design.
  3. Extract the archive to any folder you like, no installation is needed.
  4. Run the executable as administrator.
  5. Pick the product, run the activation, then create the renewal task when prompted.
  6. Close the tool and reconnect to the network.

Things worth knowing

  • Real time protection will quarantine the executable the moment it lands, add an exclusion for the folder first.
  • The retail editions of Windows and Office are not volume licensing products, this tool targets the volume editions.
  • Leave the renewal task in place, deleting it lets the activated state lapse at the next cycle.

Questions about this title

Does it need an internet connection?
No. The whole point of the key management model is that the service answers locally. It works with the network off, which is the recommended way to run it.
Will the activation survive a reboot?
Yes. The renewal task keeps the state refreshed. A full feature upgrade of Windows can reset it, at which point you run the tool again.
Why does my antivirus delete it?
Activation utilities trip heuristic detection because of what they do to the licensing service. Add a folder exclusion before extracting.
Does it work on the retail edition of Office?
No. The key management path only applies to volume editions. A retail install has to be converted to a volume edition first, which the advanced tab can attempt.
