When a machine will not start its own system, you boot this instead and get a small familiar desktop with imaging tools, partition editors, data recovery, password resets and hardware diagnostics already installed and arranged by job.

Installation notes

Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.

1. Write the image to a USB stick of 8 GB or larger with your preferred imaging tool.
2. Set the target machine to boot from USB, choosing the UEFI entry on modern firmware.
3. Boot the stick and wait for the desktop to load into memory.
4. Open the start menu and pick the tool for the job in front of you.
5. Do the work, then shut the environment down cleanly.
6. Pull the stick and let the machine boot its own system again.
