About this release

This is one of the smallest tools in this section and one of the most direct. It is a single executable, it opens into a plain window with a status line and a button, and there is no setup wizard, no options tree and no configuration file to edit. You run it with administrator rights, it reports what it found, you press the button, and it tells you what it did. That is the whole interface.

Portability is the deliberate design decision here. Nothing is installed, nothing is registered, no service is created and no scheduled task is added. The executable can live on a USB stick, run from a network share, or sit in a folder on the desktop for the twenty seconds it is needed and then be deleted. On machines that are being built rather than lived on, which is where a tool like this normally gets used, that behaviour is exactly what you want.

The interface exists in English and Russian, and the language is picked up automatically from the system with a toggle if it guesses wrong. There is a log pane that records every step it takes so you can see precisely what happened rather than trusting a success message, and the log can be copied out as plain text. Beyond that there is genuinely nothing else to it, which is the point, and it is why this one keeps circulating while larger toolkits come and go.

What it does

  • Single portable executable with no installation step of any kind
  • One screen interface with a status line, an action button and a log pane
  • Full step by step log that can be copied out as plain text
  • English and Russian interface, detected from the system and switchable
  • Works on both the desktop and the professional editions of current Windows
  • Both architectures handled by the same executable
  • No service, no scheduled task and no registry residue
  • Runs from a USB stick, a network share or any folder you control
  • Small enough to keep in a technician toolkit alongside everything else
  • Reports the existing state before doing anything, so you can back out

Changes in this version

  • Updated to handle the current servicing branch of both desktop versions
  • Clearer status reporting before any action is taken
  • Fixed a display scaling problem on high density screens
  • Improved log output with timestamps relative to the session start
  • Slightly smaller executable after removing legacy code paths

What the package contains

  • Single portable executable covering both architectures
  • English and Russian interface strings compiled in
  • Readme with usage notes
  • Changelog for the current and previous releases
  • Notes on excluding the folder from security software

Installation notes

Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.

  1. Extract the archive to a folder you control, not a system location.
  2. Add that folder to the exclusion list in your security software first.
  3. Run the executable as administrator.
  4. Read the status line before pressing anything.
  5. Press the button and wait for the log to finish writing.
  6. Close it and delete the folder if you do not want it left on the machine.

Things worth knowing

  • Security software flags this whole category of tool on sight. That is expected and says nothing about the file itself.
  • It is portable, so removing the folder removes it completely, there is nothing to uninstall.
  • Run it after Windows has finished its first round of updates rather than before, the state settles more cleanly that way.

Questions about this title

Does it install anything?
No. It is a single executable that runs from wherever you put it and leaves nothing behind when the folder is deleted.
Why does my antivirus quarantine it?
Tools of this type are flagged by category rather than by content. Exclude the folder before extracting, or do not run it.
Does it need administrator rights?
Yes. Without them the window opens and the button does nothing at all.
Will a Windows update undo it?
Cumulative updates normally leave the state alone. A full version upgrade is a different matter and usually means running it again.
