About this release
TeamViewer's enduring value is that it just connects. No port forwarding, no firewall rules, no dynamic address service, no explaining to somebody over the phone what a router configuration page is. Both ends run the application, one reads out an identifier and a code, and the session starts. For supporting a relative's machine, a client's workstation or a server in a building you are not in, that is the entire problem solved in about fifteen seconds.
Once connected, the session covers more than a moving picture of somebody's desktop. Files transfer in both directions through a two panel browser or by dragging them onto the remote screen, multiple remote monitors are handled properly with individual selection or a combined view, remote printing sends a document to the printer beside you, and the clipboard is shared so text and files copy between machines. Sessions can be recorded, and a chat panel runs alongside for anything that needs typing rather than saying.
For machines you own rather than machines you are visiting, unattended access is the important mode. An installed machine can be set to accept connections without anyone present to approve them, protected by a fixed password, and grouped in a device list so a fleet of machines is one click away each. Wake on network support means a sleeping machine can be brought up before connecting, and the whole session runs encrypted end to end.

Installation notes
Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.
- Decide whether you need the full install or the portable build, support sessions only need the portable one.
- Disconnect from the network before installing.
- Extract the archive to a folder you control.
- Run the installer as administrator, choosing unattended access if this is a machine you own.
- Apply the included activation step before first launch.
- Launch it, note the identifier, then reconnect the network.

Things worth knowing
- The portable build is the right choice for one off support, it runs without installing and leaves nothing behind.
- Set a strong fixed password if you enable unattended access, that machine is then reachable by anyone who has it.
- Heavy commercial use patterns can get a connection flagged, which is a behaviour of the service rather than the software.
