About this release

Office Tool Plus is a front end for the official Office deployment machinery, and it exists because that machinery is powerful but painful to drive by hand. Where the official tool wants you to hand write a configuration file, this gives you a window with checkboxes. You pick the edition, the channel, the architecture, the language, and which individual applications to include or leave out, and it builds and runs the install for you.

The control it exposes is the reason people keep it around. You can install a specific version and pin the update channel, add or remove a single application from an existing install without redoing the whole thing, layer extra language packs on later, and clean up a broken or half removed Office that the standard removal tool choked on. It reads what is already on the machine so you can see the current state before you change it.

Activation is built into the same window. It manages product keys, sets up the local key management style activation, and reports the licence status, so the download, install, configure and activate sequence happens in one place rather than across three tools. It is small, portable, and works offline against a local Office source if you have already downloaded one.

Installation notes

Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.

  1. Remove any broken Office first, the cleanup helper inside the tool can do this.
  2. Extract the archive to any folder, the tool is portable.
  3. Pause real time protection while it runs, deployment tools get flagged.
  4. Run the executable as administrator.
  5. Pick your edition, channel, architecture, language and applications, then deploy.
  6. Use the activation tab to set the state once the install finishes.

Things worth knowing

  • This installs Microsoft Office, it is not Office itself, it is the tool that manages the install.
  • Downloading a full Office image takes time and space, point it at a drive with room.
  • Mixing architectures across Office products fails, keep everything on one architecture.

Questions about this title

Is this Office itself?
No. It is a deployment and activation front end that downloads and installs Microsoft Office for you and gives you fine control over how.
Can I add just one application later?
Yes, that is one of its strengths. Point it at the existing install and add or remove a single application without redoing everything.
Does it need a network connection?
To download Office, yes. If you already have an Office source downloaded, it can install from that offline.
Can it fix a broken Office?
Often, yes. The cleanup helper removes stubborn leftovers that the standard removal tool leaves behind, then you can install fresh.
