About this release

Microsoft Toolkit is a set of licensing and deployment utilities gathered behind one interface, split into a tab for the operating system and a tab for the office suite. It is aimed at the person who wants more than a single blind button, each side has a customiser that exposes the individual functions, so you can see and choose what is being done rather than pressing one control and hoping.

Beyond the licensing side it carries genuine deployment helpers for the office suite, tools for installing, uninstalling and configuring the office applications, which is useful on a machine that needs the office install tidied up or rebuilt. That makes it a small management console rather than a one trick utility, which is why it stayed in circulation across many machines and many years.

It is portable and installs nothing, running from a folder or a stick and leaving no resident component behind. Installation notes

Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.

1. Extract the archive to a folder you control, not a system location.
2. Exclude that folder in your security software, or it will be quarantined on sight.
3. Make sure the framework runtime the interface needs is present.
4. Run the toolkit as administrator.
5. Pick the operating system or office tab and use its customiser.
6. Close the toolkit, and delete the folder if you do not want it left behind.
