About this release
Malwarebytes made its name as the second opinion scanner, the thing you run when a machine is behaving strangely and the installed antivirus swears everything is fine. Its detection leans toward the grey area that a traditional product ignores, the bundled adware, the potentially unwanted programs, the browser toolbars and the search hijackers that are technically consented to and therefore waved through elsewhere.
The premium build adds the real time layer on top of the on demand scanner. Web protection blocks known bad domains before the browser reaches them, exploit protection watches the common application attack surface, and ransomware protection watches for the behaviour of mass file encryption rather than a signature. The scheduled scanner keeps a machine checked without anyone remembering to run it.
It is built to coexist. Where two full antivirus products on one machine fight each other, this is designed to sit next to whatever is already installed and cover the gap the other product leaves. It can also run as the only protection on a machine if that is what you want. This release has the premium features unlocked from first launch rather than running a trial timer.

Installation notes
Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.
- Close any browser windows before you begin.
- Disconnect from the network if you want to apply the unlock offline.
- Run the installer as administrator and finish the wizard.
- Apply the included unlock step before launching for the first time.
- Open the application, run a first full scan, then reconnect.
- Set a scan schedule so it keeps checking on its own.
System requirements
| Operating system | Windows 10 or Windows 11 |
| Processor | 1 GHz or faster |
| Memory | 2 GB minimum, 4 GB recommended |
| Graphics | No specific requirement |
| Storage | 500 MB free |

Things worth knowing
- Turn off the automatic update check if you want the unlock state to stay exactly as installed.
- If you run it as your only protection, leave every real time layer enabled rather than just the scanner.
- A very deep custom scan of a full archive drive takes a long time, the default scan targets the places that matter first.

What people are saying
Ran it on a relative's machine that was drowning in browser popups. Found and cleared the lot in one pass.
Running it next to the built in stack with no conflict. Second opinion that actually catches things.
Web protection blocks the scam notification sites before they even load now. Big improvement.
