About this release
AOMEI Backupper covers the two jobs that keep a machine recoverable, imaging a system so it can be put back exactly as it was, and cloning a drive so its contents move to a new disk without a reinstall. The system image captures the operating system, the applications and the settings as a single restore point, and the incremental and differential schedules keep that image current without re-copying everything each time.
Cloning is the part people reach for when a drive is failing or an upgrade to a larger or faster disk is due. The tool copies the source onto the target, handling the boot configuration and the partition alignment so the new disk boots on its own, which is the step that trips up a manual copy. A system clone can move just the operating system across when the rest of the data lives elsewhere.
The bundled rescue medium is what makes the backups worth having. Written to a stick, it boots a small environment from which a stored image can be restored onto a machine that will not start its own system, including onto different hardware where the driver injection step keeps the restored install bootable. Installation notes
Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.
- Disconnect from the network before you begin.
- Pause real time protection for the duration of the install.
- Extract the archive to a folder you control.
- Run the installer as administrator and finish the wizard.
- Apply the included unlock step, then build a rescue stick straight away.
- Launch once, set up a first backup schedule, then reconnect.

Things worth knowing
- Build the rescue stick while the machine is healthy, a backup you cannot restore is not a backup.
- Store backup images on a separate drive from the one being imaged, not on the same disk.
