About this release

AnyDesk is a remote desktop client built around a purpose written codec that keeps the picture responsive even on a modest connection. You connect to a remote machine by its address, the other side accepts, and from there you are driving that desktop with the mouse and keyboard as if you were local. The whole thing is small enough to run without installing, which is why it ends up on support technicians' USB sticks.

The session carries more than a picture. File transfer moves things in both directions, a clipboard sync passes text and files across, and a session recording captures the whole thing for a record. Multiple monitors on the remote side are handled properly, either mapped onto your own screens or switched between from a toolbar. Unattended access can be set up so a machine you own answers on its own without someone sitting at it.

This release is the full client with the professional features unlocked from the first launch rather than gated behind a licence prompt. Address book, session logging, custom permission profiles per connection, and the on screen whiteboard for pointing things out during a support call are all present. It runs as an installed application or as a portable executable straight off external storage.

What it does

  • Low latency remote control built on a purpose written video codec
  • File transfer in both directions with drag and drop and a dedicated panel
  • Clipboard synchronisation for text and files across the session
  • Unattended access for machines you own with a stored access password
  • Multi monitor handling with mapping or per screen switching
  • Session recording for keeping a record of a support call
  • Address book with tags and connection notes
  • Per connection permission profiles controlling input, clipboard and file access
  • On screen whiteboard for annotating during a session
  • Runs installed or fully portable from external storage

Changes in this version

  • Improved frame pacing on high refresh rate remote displays
  • Faster reconnection after a brief network drop mid session
  • Reworked file transfer panel with clearer progress reporting
  • Better handling of mixed DPI setups across the two machines
  • Reduced idle resource use when a session is connected but static

What the package contains

  • AnyDesk full client with the professional features unlocked
  • Portable executable alongside the installer
  • All interface languages
  • Readme with the setup and unattended access steps
  • Notes on locking down permission profiles

Installation notes

Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.

  1. Extract the archive to a folder you control.
  2. Disconnect from the network only if you want to apply the unlock offline first.
  3. Run the installer as administrator, or launch the portable executable directly.
  4. If you want unattended access, set an access password in security settings.
  5. Add the machines you connect to often into the address book.
  6. Reconnect and test a session before you rely on it.

System requirements

Operating systemWindows 7 or newer, 32-bit or 64-bit
ProcessorAny 1 GHz or faster processor
Memory1 GB minimum
GraphicsDirectX 9 capable for hardware accelerated rendering
Storage80 MB free

Things worth knowing

  • Set a strong access password before enabling unattended access, an open unattended machine is a real risk.
  • Some networks throttle the default port, switching to the alternate port in settings usually fixes a slow connect.
  • Turn off the automatic update check if you want the unlock state left exactly as installed.

Questions about this title

Do both machines need it installed?
Both ends need the client, but the far end can run the portable executable without installing. Only the address and the accept prompt are required to start.
Can I leave a machine reachable when nobody is there?
Yes, unattended access with a stored password does that. Guard the password, since it is the only thing between the internet and that desktop.
Why is my session laggy?
Drop the image quality to the balanced or speed preset, and check whether either side is on a saturated connection. The codec adapts but it cannot invent bandwidth.
Does file transfer have a size limit?
No practical limit beyond the disk space on the receiving side. Very large transfers are better left running while you keep the session open.
