About this release
This is the professional edition of Windows XP at Service Pack 3, its final service pack, consolidated into a single installation image with a multilingual pack folded in and the post SP3 updates integrated so the first boot is not followed by an endless update run. It writes to a disc or a USB stick and runs through the classic XP text mode then graphical setup, including partitioning and formatting. Installation notes
Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.
- Back up anything on the target, a clean install formats the partition.
- Write the image to a disc, or to a USB stick with a tool that supports XP media.
- Boot from the media, using the legacy BIOS boot entry.
- Work through the text mode setup, partition and format the target.
- Let the graphical setup phase complete and reach the desktop.
- Keep the machine off the open internet given the age of the system.
