About this release

This image installs the current generation of the operating system alongside the perpetual office suite in a single run. The professional edition goes down first with nothing removed from its component store, and the office half is layered on during the same setup, so a machine reaches a working desktop with the word processor, spreadsheet, presentation tool and mail client already present. That removes the second install most people do straight after the operating system.

The prepared part is the requirement check. The current generation of the operating system normally refuses to install on hardware without a recent security chip and a supported processor, which locks out a lot of otherwise capable machines. This image is set up to complete on that hardware, so an older but perfectly usable computer can run the current system rather than being stranded on the previous one.

Everything else behaves like standard install media. Write it to a stick, boot it, and run through setup including the partition step and the choice between a clean install and an upgrade. The office half carries the perpetual licence rather than a subscription, so it opens documents without checking a licence server, and both halves reach an activated state without a key prompt.

What it does

  • Current generation operating system and office suite installed together
  • Professional edition with BitLocker, Remote Desktop host and group policy
  • Prepared to install on machines without the usual security chip requirement
  • Perpetual office suite that opens documents without a licence check
  • Activated state reached on both halves without a key prompt
  • Full recovery environment left intact
  • Thirty eight setup and display languages included
  • Runs as an in place upgrade from a mounted drive if preferred
  • Rolled up servicing so the first update pass is short
  • Boots on UEFI systems with secure boot supported

Changes in this version

  • Refreshed servicing baseline folded into the operating system half
  • Updated office payload at the current perpetual servicing level
  • Improved compatibility on older processors during the requirement bypass
  • Fixed a stall during the office stage on machines with a leftover install cache
  • Refreshed driver set for current storage controllers

What the package contains

  • Bootable image carrying the operating system and the office suite
  • Office payload prepared for both common architectures
  • All setup and display languages
  • Full recovery environment
  • Readme with the install order written out step by step

Installation notes

Follow these in order. Most reports of a failed install come from skipping a step rather than from the package itself.

  1. Back up anything you care about, a clean install wipes the target partition.
  2. Write the image to a USB stick of 8 GB or larger with your preferred imaging tool.
  3. Boot from the stick, choosing the UEFI entry.
  4. Run through the operating system setup and let it reach the desktop.
  5. Let the office stage finish on its own after the first sign in.
  6. Open the word processor once, close it, then reconnect to the network.

System requirements

Processor64-bit dual core 1 GHz or faster, older chips supported by this image
Memory4 GB minimum, 8 GB recommended
GraphicsDirectX 12 capable with WDDM 2.0 driver
Storage64 GB minimum, more recommended
FirmwareUEFI, the usual security chip requirement is bypassed
Display1280 by 720 minimum

Things worth knowing

  • Disconnect from the network during setup so the out of box experience does not force an account sign in step.
  • Bypassing the hardware check means feature updates may need the same handling later, pin the version if that matters.
  • Chipset and graphics drivers should still come from your hardware maker rather than the generic set in the image.

Questions about this title

Will it really install without the security chip?
Yes, the image is prepared to complete the requirement check on hardware that would normally be refused. Older but capable machines run fine.
Is the office suite the subscription version?
No, it is the perpetual release. It installs once and does not check a subscription state before opening a document.
Will future updates undo the bypass?
Cumulative updates are fine. A full feature upgrade may reapply the hardware check, so handle that the same way or pin the version.
Do both halves stay activated?
Yes, both reach an activated state and cumulative updates leave it alone.
